Pediatric Care in Oakdale
Chiropractic has many benefits for the human body, focusing on adjusting misalignments along the spine and restoring your nervous system to its optimal function.
In adults, we know adjustments help the body heal itself and alleviate many symptoms of misalignments, from neck and back discomfort and pain to digestion problems, headaches, fatigue, and much more. Children are no different. Though their bodies may be smaller, they still receive tremendous benefits from comprehensive chiropractic care.
Help for Many Childhood Conditions
Birth can leave a lasting imprint on a baby’s spine and nervous system. A lot of force can be placed upon the upper part of the baby’s neck, even if it’s considered a normal birthing process. There can also be difficulties, like when the baby’s shoulders are hung up in the birth canal, and tools are necessary to help the baby move through the canal.
All of that extra force adds up, and babies can suffer from misalignments. If left uncorrected, these misalignments can cause children of all ages to suffer from significant disruptions to their normal body function.
Misalignments in this area can later be associated with things like recurrent ear infections, headaches, tingling in the extremities, difficulty latching and swallowing in babies, and behavioral problems in school-age children.
How Adjustments for Children Work
When our chiropractic team adjusts your child, it is different from the adjustment an adult receives. Only the gentlest methods will be used. Any parent who’s had their child adjusted can tell you that it uses a very small amount of force, but it produces amazing results.
One area of focus will be the upper cervical area, as misalignments there are commonly associated with symptoms in children. When misalignments occur in this area, the additional pressure on the nerves near the ears can spur chronic ear infections.
Additional pressure from bones out of place in the upper neck can also affect the brain stem and the ability of the brain and the body to communicate clearly with one another. In turn, a symptom of this can be ADHD.
From a chiropractic standpoint, children don’t need anywhere near as much force to realign the bones in the spine, and their bodies accept the adjustments and hold them much better than adults.
