The Great Unwind: Launching Our Stress Awareness Month Campaign

Why Talk About Stress?

person with headache looking stressedStress is one of the most common yet often overlooked challenges people face every day. According to Dr. Kriva of Parkview Chiropractic Clinic, stress is behind a significant number of doctor visits in the United States. “Stress is a major issue, and unfortunately, it can have a very detrimental effect on our health,” he explains.

This April, we’re launching The Great Unwind—a month-long campaign to shine a light on stress: what it is, how it affects us, and how to manage it effectively. In our video series, Dr. Kriva walks through practical tools to help you reduce the impact of stress and live a more balanced, healthy life.

What Is Stress, Really?

Stress triggers your body’s fight-or-flight response—useful in emergencies, but harmful when it becomes constant. After that initial reaction, we enter an adaptation stage, where we try to cope with ongoing stress. But our bodies can only handle so much before they reach exhaustion.

Exhaustion and Its Consequences

If stress keeps piling on without relief, your body can burn out completely. In the exhaustion stage, you might feel drained, overwhelmed, or even physically ill. This is when stress-related health problems like high blood pressure, sleep disruption, or even heart issues begin to emerge.

The nervous system—already strained—can’t regulate the body properly, which leads to a breakdown in function. That’s why recognizing this stage early and taking action is so important.

The Stress-Productivity Connection

Some stress can push us to be productive and focused—but too much of it has the opposite effect. Dr. Kriva explains the “stress-productivity curve,” where energy and motivation peak with just enough stress, then crash when pressure becomes overwhelming.

Fuel Your Body to Fight Stress

Blood sugar spikes and crashes caused by stress—and poor eating—can make things worse. A balanced 40-30-30 diet (carbs, protein, fats) helps stabilize your energy and keep your nervous system steady.

Laughter, Rest & Realignment

Laughter improves mood and boosts your immune system. Sleep gives your body time to repair and recharge. Chiropractic care reduces physical tension and supports nervous system health—especially important when stress is high.

Ready to Unwind?

When left unchecked, stress can contribute to a wide range of health challenges and interfere with daily life. Dr. Kriva and our entire team are passionate about helping patients understand how stress affects the body—and how to manage it in ways that support a healthier, more balanced lifestyle.
